DEVINE ELECTED MACRS PRESIDENT

Riley Reelected Vice President, Two New Board Members Chosen

Denis Devine has been elected president of the Massachusetts Association of Contributory Retirement Systems to serve a two-year term. Devine, who was unopposed in his election, is a member of the Woburn Retirement Board. He is also a retired fire captain and previously served as MACRS vice president from 2005-2007.

A past president of Woburn Local 971 PFFM-IAFF, Devine has been active in MACRS since 1990, when he was first elected to the MACRS Executive Board. He was reelected to the Executive Board in 2008.

Brad Tenney, chairman of the Cambridge Retirement Board, chose not to seek reelection as MACRS President, after serving from 2007-2009. Tenney was recently elected secretary treasurer of the Professional Firefighters of Massachusetts and continues to serve as a Cambridge firefighter.

Delegates to MACRS's annual Spring Conference, held in Hyannis, once again elected James "Chet" Riley to a two-year term as the Association's vice president. Riley, a retired firefighter, retiree advocate and past president of Brookline Firefighters Local 950, is chairman of the Brookline Retirement Board.

In addition to the reelection of Shawn Duhamel (Plymouth), Ralph White (State) and Edward Little (Norfolk County) to the MACRS Executive Board two new members were also elected to the Board. John Brown (Middlesex Regional) and Gene Durgin (Worcester Regional) were both elected to three and one-year (unexpired) terms respectively. Concord firefighter Brian Whitney and Agawam firefighter Karl Schmaelzle finished in the 6th and 7th spots on their first runs for the Board.
