| MACRS MOURNS LOSS OF JOHN MURPHY |
Served Association Over 45 YearsLong-time MACRS board member and dedicated conference planner John E. Murphy, Jr. passed away at home on the morning of December 31, 2009. The 85 year old Murphy, a US Navy veteran of both World War II and the Korean War, served MACRS for over 45 years. A Plymouth resident, John served more than 15 years as an appointed member of the Town of Plymouth Retirement Board. He had previously been an elected member of the Somerville Retirement Board, where he served as chairman for many years. John Murphy worked for the City of Somerville for more than 40 years, retiring as the Director of Emergency Services Management. “John Murphy has been a key member of MACRS and our Massachusetts retirement community for nearly a half century. His contributions toward a secure retirement for our public retirees and employees are immeasurable,” said MACRS President Denis Devine. “John was like family and we will miss his sharp Irish wit and dedication." A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 6th at 9AM from the Richard Davis Funeral Home, 619 State Road (Rte 3A), Plymouth (Manomet) followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Bonaventure’s Church at 10 o’clock. Burial at the Manomet Cemetery. Visiting hours will be from 2-4 and 7-9 pm on Tuesday, Jan. 5th. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made in the name of John E. Murphy Jr. to the Massachusetts General Hospital, 165 Cambridge St, Suite 600, Boston, MA 02114. |
